Your hosts have good knowledge of these attractions and can provide advice on where to go, what to do and how to enjoy yourselves.

The highlights of the region include:


Stroll around the historic city of Bordeaux


Follow the ‘Route Verte’ along the Gironde Estuary to the coastal resort of Royan with its beautiful beaches


Visit the zoo at La Palmyre


Visit the Roman city of Saintes [on the River Charente] with its amphitheatre, cathedral, museums, shops and restaurants


Visit the town of Jonzac with its thermal spa, castle, indoor lagoon swimming pool and casino


Hire a boat or a pedalo and cruise the River Charente


Stroll around the historic town of Cognac with its beautiful riverside setting and experience a ‘cognac tasting tour’


Climb Dune de Pyla – the largest sand dune in Europe


Visit the beautiful beaches of the Cote D’Or


Attend the weekly night markets at Montendre, Jonzac and other local towns: enjoy the chance to shop in a convivial atmosphere whilst eating outside with friends and being entertained by local bands/groups.


All through the summer you will find a multitude of events to entertain you, from classical concerts on the beach at Royan street art and acrobatics in Jonzac, jazz/pop concerts in Cognac, St. Martial de Mirambeau, Montendre, Jonzac and Blaye, to small local brocantes in all the towns and villages.


For the more energetic visitor, we have copies of numerous cycle routes [of various lengths and difficulties] within relatively easy reach of the campsite. These include the cycle paths [utilising old railway lines] between Etauliers and Blaye [14km] and the Route Verte between Barbezieux and Clerac [37km].
